What Facebook Is Hiding Behind the Plus Number
A multi photo post is showing four or five tiles and a plus number, and the rest of the photos are not in that page at all. Here is how Picazor is getting them anyway.
The Set Behind the Post
Every photo in a post belongs to a set, and Facebook is keeping a page for that set which lists all of its members, hidden ones included. Picazor is finding the set id from the post and reading that page, so the plus twelve is twelve real photos, not a number on a tile.
Order Kept as Posted
The set page is listing photos in the order the uploader put them, so the album is coming back first to last, not in whatever order the feed was pushing. The numbering on the buttons is matching the album.
Original Size on Every Photo
The tile in the feed is a resized preview. For each member of the set we are opening the photo itself and taking the largest rendition Facebook is holding, often several times the pixels the feed is showing you.
One Link Is Doing the Work of a Hundred Right Clicks
Facebook is making it easy to look at an album and hard to keep one. Open each photo, wait for the viewer, right click, save, close, next, a hundred times. Picazor is doing the opening on our side and handing you the list. Here is what that is covering, and the one thing it is not.
- How Facebook Is Storing an Album. Not as one file. As a set of photo pages tied to one set id, and the post is only showing the first few. Picazor is reading that set once and the list is coming back with every member on it.
- Hidden Photos. The plus number is real photos. They are in the set, not in the post, and the set is where we are reading, so nothing behind the plus is getting left out.
- Mixed Photo and Video Posts. A set with a clip inside is giving you the clip as well, an MP4 with its own button. Photos are JPG, videos are MP4, and each tile is saying which.
- Album Links and Post Links Both. Paste the media set link, the posts link, a share link, or a photo opened inside the set. We are resolving all of them to the same set and reading it once.
- Marketplace Galleries Are Their Own Tool. A marketplace listing looks like an album but Facebook is serving it a different way, so it has its own page, Marketplace Download, linked in the footer.
- Give It a Few Seconds. An album is loading photo by photo on our side, ten to twenty seconds for a big set. The line under the bar is telling you it is still working, and it is.
